Psychoneurophysiology And Bioregulation Research Center

About Centre

Centre performs scientific research in such fields:

1. Neurophysiological specifics of brain maturation in ontogenesis.

2. Development of hyperactivity diagnostics and correction methods for children.

3. Research of brain psychophysiological specifics for children with uncontrollable aggressiveness and

development of scientific basis for early corrections.

4. Chronic fatigue and premature aging neurophysiological specifics.

Centre carries out pedagogical activity:

1. Performs qualification rising courses (after graduate education) about preschool and school children

neuropsychophysiology.

2. The only Centre in Latvia, that prepares specialists in new fields of knowledge:

- Functional bioregulation with biofeedback.

- Stress management.

- Evaluation of unconscious emotional tension with polygraph.

Centre performs consultative work with hyperactive children, their parents, teachers and psychologists.

Centre’s leading employees

Centre works in a crossroads of different scientific research fields: psychophysiology, neurophysiology, psychology, medicine and neurocybernetics.

Our history:

Psychoneurophysiology and bioregulation invention Centre was founded by employees of Medical biological and ecological research Centre in year 1994, it was located in Jurmala, 13 Piestatnes str.

Medical biological and ecological research Centre started its action in year 1978, when the Riga’s medical institute’s biophysics department was detached as a separate organization. Professor, medical science doctor Dr.Med. F.G. Portnov became a chief and scientific advisor of Riga medical institute department of biophysics and later -Medical biological and ecological research Centre.

Centre (MBERC) performed wide range of scientific research in basic fields of biology and medicine. One of the most important advantages of the Centre was establishing experimental research results in real life: heart, blood vessel and nervous system function distortion early indication diagnostics and correction without medicine, development of prophylaxis methods using special devices (ELAP, AIST, AIMA) and newest foreign devices, for example - biofeedback.

One of the Centre’s scientific-practical directions included neurosis, borderline position and psychological disorder neurophysiological mechanics research. This research was partly developed in Psychophysiological and bio regulation research Centre afterwards.

At that time brain electrical activity registration was realized with 18 channel ink electroencephalograph. (Hungary)

Centre always welcomed students for course and diploma paper realization, and introduced them to newest diagnostic methods.

Student introduction to newest functional diagnostics methods

In the beginning of 1970’s Centre obtained newest “Biofeedback” device (arrow and sound device complex, produced in USA at that time). It was the only device with biofeedback in Latvia. So the specifics and mechanics of peripheral and central nervous system function no medication recovery was researched intense. After ten years functional bio regulation devices was improved intensively and in the newly created Psychophysiological and bioregulation Centre started its action with a contemporary and compact devices from USA and Russia.

Psychophysiological and bio regulation Centre continued scientific research about brain electrical activity maturation specifics in ontogenesis (Fundamental researches in section “Projects”).

New practical researches about brain functionality neurophysiological specifics (cognitive functions for children with attention concentration disorders, hyperactivity, memory, speech and reading disorders and aggressive behavior) were continued as well. Parallel researches about early aging sign evaluation by brain electrical activity quantitative analysis method were done.

In year 1996 employees of Centre (Chairman: Dr. med. Jānis Vandāns) in cooperation with Experimental and clinical medicine institute (representatives: Academician A. Krauklis, Profesor A. Mertens, Profesor A. Aldersons) and other organization representatives founded Latvian “Bidofeedback” association . Professor Alberts Aldersons was elected as a president of association. In year 2002 Association was renamed as Latvian functional bioregulation with Biofeedback specialist association. As a president Dr. med. J. Vandāns was elected, he is still directing association at the moment. First conference about biofeedback research results was realized on “Gaiļezers” hospital basis in Riga. This conference revealed medical personnel and psychologist huge interest about this effective no medicine method for vegetative and central nervous system recovery. Every year this method is widely used in Latvia and all around the world.
